You may have asked yourself, “why is my posture so bad? What did I do to deserve this?!”
And then you may have said, “it’s probably my parents’ fault.”
It might be a little your parents’ fault, but it’s not all your parents’ fault.
Your posture is simply the way you hold your body. It’s not all about the shapes of your bones. It’s about how the bones are being positioned and held in space.
And what’s holding them in space?
Muscles are the ones determining how bones move, where they rest, and whether they can move in certain ways. If you can address the muscles, you can address a major part of what’s making your posture less than ideal.
For some people, this can be a relatively straightforward process. Activate a few muscles here, calm down a few muscles there. Boom. Done.
For others, it can be a much longer process requiring patience, persistence, and a lot of paying attention to how muscles are misbehaving. For example, I worked with a client earlier this year whose neck pain wouldn’t calm down until she got her inner thigh muscles back into proper shape. If you had asked me from the beginning whether I thought her neck pain might be caused by her inner thighs, I would NOT have just randomly guessed it.
But with her input and some experimentation, we figured it out together.
So pay some attention to your muscles, pay attention to what they’re doing right (and wrong), and then be patient and persistent!
