Getting needled? Posture still matters!
I remember when very few people knew what acupuncture was. I remember being extremely skittish about getting acupuncture, and I remember one rather terrifying acupuncture experience I had in Orange County a few years back (ask me about that another day). If you’re someone who’s using acupuncture to relieve pain or just improve your health, note that improving your posture can greatly improve your outcomes:
Posture is often overlooked as a health concern, but a person’s posture has a direct effect on his or her breathing, organ function, and muscle integrity. With the majority of American adults confined to desk and chair for 40 hours of the week, attention to posture is crucial for optimum health. In Chinese medicine, correct posture is considered necessary for the proper flow of qi (the life force that traverses each living thing). TCM practitioners believe that good posture provides for not only the proper flow of qi, but of blood as well (leading to better brain and organ performance).

When you’re trying to get well by treating your body well, remember that posture plays a big role in how well your body functions. Bad posture causes lots of pain, fatigue, and suffering, and fixing your posture can improve your quality of life like you wouldn’t believe.

STORIES OF SUCCESS
“I’ve been working as a dentist for nine years. As a dentist, I’ve been suffering from poor posture and twisting of my body as a result of long hours of work. Not only was I discouraged about how my posture was getting worse, but I also noticed pain in my upper back and the heels of my feet. I am an avid runner and had been dealing with plantar fascitis for a few years.
I tried going to chiropractors and kinesiologists with no results except a lighter wallet. I was referred to Matt and skeptically gave him a try. He offered me a few stretching exercises to do every day.
After doing the stretches, I can now run longer and faster. I discovered that the foot pain was due to the twisting in my body and that it was (for years) misdiagnosed as plantar fascitis. I am still doing the exercises and have noticed the forward head posture also decreasing. I’ve finally found someone who can help with the aches and pains that come from my posture problems!”
